Sonic Pipes for Foundation Drilling and Piling

Sonic pipes, also known as sonic logging tubes or CSL tubes, are specialized steel tubes installed inside reinforced concrete piles to perform integrity testing through Cross-Hole Sonic Logging (CSL). These pipes allow engineers to assess the quality, strength, and continuity of deep foundation piles by transmitting ultrasonic signals between probes placed in the tubes. The testing method helps detect defects such as voids, honeycombing, or structural inconsistencies within the concrete, ensuring that the foundation meets strict engineering and safety standards.

Sonic pipes are widely used in infrastructure projects, bridge foundations, high-rise buildings, marine structures, and large-scale piling works. They are typically fabricated from high-quality steel and designed with threaded or welded joints to ensure secure installation within the reinforcement cage before concrete pouring. Once the pile is cast, the tubes serve as channels for ultrasonic probes during CSL testing, which is considered one of the most reliable non-destructive testing (NDT) methods in modern geotechnical engineering.
